I've got both Apart from the SM to be filled every 10mins, they pretty evenly matched. I much prefer the SM It just works.

Definitely not a waste of time. Its the only cotton I use and I've never had a problem. I buy the ones that come in the square blocks. Only difference for me with this cotton is that you probably have to wick a little sooner than others.
