As a safety measure and to prevent damage to your mod, do not use batteries which have a broken plastic seal layer near the positive terminal (see picture).
When the plastic layer is removed (I stripped the insulation just to expose the layer - see pic), it exposes the negative layer of the battery which encloses the chemical components inside.
Using such a battery will create a short circuit damaging your mod permanently. The risks are at the highest when removing or inserting batteries because the battery contacts on the mod can easily touch the edge of the exposed layer. So, don't try to save a few bucks, just get new batteries for safety and to prevent any unwanted damages to your mods.
