I made a mistake last night with my VTR. It was pretty late, and on my way to make an espresso, I had this compulsion to take the top plate off the VTR so I could sand the area again, the part near the two screws.. with some ultra fine sandpaper. Don't know why I do this mad sh1t late at night, but anyway I proceed to remove the four screws. Lift the 'cap' off when I start to smell that fried chip smell, and simultaneously realize that I had neglected to remove the friggin battery first. sigh....
Had another look at what I could see of the circuit boards just now, and I can't see any physical damage. But the VTR is refusing to switch on. I guess the lesson here for me is "Don't listen to that voice in your head after 12pm.
