Hi folks, please help fault finding this problem. My son has a week only m65. Yesterday it started displaying a check atomizer message and the battery bay smells like a capacitor blew.

He is using a week old smurf, the device was set to 20w. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Check atomizer usually means the coil has a short(or Ohms is too low for the device), so if it is a tank, replace the coil, if it is rebuildable, check the coil on an Ohm meter

@Derick I have checked three tanks on the device, still shows the same message. The coils at all working on my I sticks.

Yeah, then it sounds like something fried - I assume you have tried to reset the device, tried a different battery etc.?

Yes I took the battery out but we only have the one. Same problem. The smell worries me, how does a vent battery smell?

Batteries that vent catch fire and look basically like when you light a whole box of matches on fire - except that effect goes on for much longer, temperatures go into excess of 500 C - so you would definitely know if a battery has vented :)

It could be that the battery has shorted though, is the battery sleeve (plastic/rubber around battery) still intact? If so, then the last part I can think of is the electronics inside the device that has gone

OK so no venting, the sleeve is still intact, the menu and display still work. I guess I need to return it to the vendor and see what he says regarding warranties.

Yep, your best bet, warranties on Smok devices are usually 6 months from Smok, but each vendor can apply his own - good luck!

Thanks for the troubleshooting, I appreciate the help. Busy vaping pina colada right now btw, mine is ok but I prefer the pineapple.

No worries, glad to help.

Yeah opposite for me, the pineapple is too harsh for me and the pina colada is a lot smoother on my throat - makes me wonder what they would taste like mixed... hmm :)

I have been thinking of mixing then too, I think in the right ratio it would be be great.

Maybe the 510 pin needs to be adjusted on the M65?

Try picking it up a bit or screwing it up (too lazy to Google whick pin it has). Spring loaded should be a warranty issue since a new one should be fine but the screw type might just be adjusted to low price make contact.

I have this issue with my MVP2 sometimes bu using different atties with different lengths. sometimes the pin got pushed too low by the previous atty so I wiggle it up with a screwdriver (need to change the insulator as mine is old). Other times I need to push the pin out on the atty itself as it's too far in. But also thought it was major as I got "non" readings, "check atomizer", and very inconsistent ohm readings and all it was, was just bad 510 connection.

Oh true - forgot about that, I think the M50/65 has a spring loaded pin, but yeah, could be that it is stuck/broken

I have tried the adjustable pin with no luck. But that also does not account for the popped cap smell. That's what is leading me to think it's a electronic fault.

Hi Folks, just an update and a shout out. I p's @Ricgt on Sunday at about two pm. He read this thread and promptly replied saying that the Puff Station would send me a new device and battery on Monday.

I received the device today with a prepaid sleeve to return the faulty one. No hassle or issues.

As always the vendor has outdone himself and I would encourage anyone to do business with them whenever possible.

Thanks @Ricgt you rock!!!!
