Introduction
In recent weeks Joyetech have been busy concentrating on pod systems and vape pens and here is their latest pod system the RunAbout. The RunAbout is a constant output device with a 1.2ohm coil fixed inside the pod making it ideal for high nicotine and nicotine salts e-liquids. The device feels like it's made out of Zinc Alloy (definitely a metal) and shape is supposed to be influenced by a Yacht, to me it looks just like a surf board. The RunAbout fires using a physical fire button rather than being suction activated and has LED settings to give it a bit of colour and customisation, so let's go surfing with the RunAbout!
In the Box

2 x Cartridge(one pre-installed)

Aesthetics and Ergonomics
The RunAbout came in tubular plastic see-through packaging so before opening i could see i had the Zebra design. The RunAbout also comes in some other eye catching designs which are Oak Texture, Riva, Red Wood, Black Wood and Marble, i particularly like the look of the Oak Texture and Marble designs but for those that like a plainer classy look Red Wood and Black Wood are good options. As mentioned in the introduction the inspiration behind the look of the device is a Yacht but to me they look just like miniature surf boards and the designs wouldn't look out of place on surf boards either. The shape isn't just different for a vape device but in my opinion aesthetically pleasing and works excellently ergonomically. The design matches front and back and has a split down the centre, the front has the Joyetech trademark printed above the design and a protruding round large fire button towards the top of the design. The back of the device has "RunAbout" printed above the design and the micro USB port towards the bottom. The bottom of the device narrows to a point and this point both front and back has a translucent section for LED lighting to shine through. The top of the device see's the translucent Black tinted pod fitted with the entire section that holds the e-liquid visible so the juice level can be seen at all times. The build quality is excellent and very solid feeling, it's made from some sort of metal (i'm guessing Zinc Alloy) and is quite thick, for such a small pocket friendly device it has some reassuring weight to it.

The Pod
The pod has a comfortable mouthpiece with quite a narrow bore hole for the vape, it holds 2ml of liquid and although tinted Black is fully translucent so absolutely no issues with being able to see your juice level. The pod is just press fitted into the device but fits in place extremely securely and with a tug comes out revealing contacts both inside the device and on the bottom of the pod. To one side of the pod we have a silicone bung which when removed reveals a good size fill port so most size nozzles will be fine to use, once filled i personally air on the side of caution and leave for 10 minutes before using. On the opposite side of the pod is an opening for air which looks like it travels down a cavity and to the bottom of the coil. The coil fitted inside the pod is 1.2ohm and looking inside the pod you can clearly see it has quite generous wicking slots for a pod system coil, you receive 2 pods with the RunAbout which is a big pro.
Note: When receiving the kit the fitted pod has a sticker over the contacts that will need removing to use.
Using the RunAbout
The RunAbout is the usual 5 clicks of the fire button to turn on and 5 clicks to turn off, both followed by a bit of a light display. Once on like most pod systems nothing can be adjusted as far as vaping is concerned you simply press the fire button and vape. On the pointed bottom of the device you have LED's both sides also the surround of the fire button also lights up. The light at both the bottom of the device and around the fire button shows battery indication when vaping or will flash various amounts of times if a safety protection kicks in. When the lights are solidly lit while vaping then the battery is full or almost full, as the battery life gets less the lights flash, slowly to start with and quickens up more and more as the life becomes less and less. The indication sounds not ideal but actually you get use to how quick the lights flash in relation to how low the battery life is very quickly and it works very well. After taking a vape the lights go out but 2 seconds later the lights give a little show with breathing effect 4 times before going permanently off until you take another vape. The other thing i like as far as battery indication goes is having the light on the bottom of the device as well as around the fire button, this is because with a lot of these types of devices you have to either press the fire button without vaping to check battery life or if the device is suction activated very quickly look at the device after vaping hoping you manage to get a glimpse of the indication light before it goes off, with the RunAbout you can clearly see the light on the bottom of the device while vaping. The RunAbout has all the usual safety protections you would expect which include Low voltage protection, Over vape protection, Over charging protection and Short circuit protection.
Customisation
The colour of the light around the fire button and bottom of the device which come on when vaping and then does breathing effect can be changed to the colour of choice. Pressing the fire button 3 times causes the lights to come on solid then each additional press of the fire button goes through the various colours you can choose from. The options are Red, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, White, Purple and lights off, when the colour you want is lit just wait a few seconds and the light goes off, that colour is now set. If you choose lights off then you no longer get the breathing effect light show but when vaping you will still get battery indication in the colour Red.
Battery Life
I used the RunAbout as a second device over a week period while testing a couple of other devices, using 70VG e-liquid which was my usual 3mg. I also used it for a whole day using some nic salts as i have some that have been sent for me to look at. 480mAh doesn't sound much battery life and when using with 3mg liquid i found myself almost chain vaping and although not shocking battery life it is far from great, however when using higher mg with the nic salts the frequency of vaping obviously reduced and the battery virtually lasted the whole day, when it did finally give up the ghost i found it to support pass-through while charging.
My Experience Using The RunAbout
The device works very reliably with no miss fires and with being constant output it gives a consistent vape throughout. The fire button is a nice size and protrudes enough so that finding it is very easy. The draw on the device is perfect for me but if you are looking for a tight MTL draw then the RunAbout isn't for you. The draw is a choice between a loose MTL or even a very tight restricted lung hit. I don't know what the constant output of the device is but from using the device i am guessing 3.7v as it gives decent power and more cloud than i expected. When using the 70VG liquid it kept up no problem at all despite chain vaping at times and the flavour is very good, comparable to the Aspire Nautilus AIO pod system. As mentioned i only used it for one day as my main device and a week on and off while using other devices so admittedly not loads of use but the flavour is still as good as when the pod was first used. The last couple of things worth mentioning is when i have took the pod out to refill both the bottom of the pod and inside the device have been dry, not a drop of juice or condensation. The only small issue i came across was after filling or if leaving for a long period of time without vaping then you get slight flooding and some gurgling but it soon clears with a few vapes.
Final Thoughts
If you are looking for a pod system and like a loose MTL vape then this is a very good option, although with the 480mAh battery much more suitable for using with high nicotine and nic salts to get the most out of the battery life. It gives great flavour, is solidly made and has no leaking issues.
