My experience with vaping (as a runner) self.electronic_cigarette

Since I haven't heard of many other vapers in a similar situation; I thought I'd write up a post on my experience with vaping so far. Unlike a lot of the people here I had already quit smoking well before I even thought about vaping. And right after quitting, I made fitness a pretty big priority in my life. After changing my diet, changing my sleep patterns, and hitting up the gym at least 3-4 days every week for the last couple years, I found myself in the best shape of my life and making steady improvements.
Then, a little over 4 months ago, I was watching a hutch stream and he was vaping an atlantis 2 on a sigelei 150 like usual. That was pretty much the first time I'd heard much about a non e-go style vaporizer and I got a little bit interested. After reading up online, I decided I would give it a try. I loved smoking, but I’ve always been sensitive to nicotine and found cigarettes made me very tired on top of the usual health hazards. I liked the idea of how much more control you get with a vaporizer, as well as the lack of negative health effects reported by vapers. Seeing as I was running 20-30 miles every week, I figured I would notice any ill effects rather quickly, and having quit smoking cold turkey, it couldn't be any harder to stop vaping if I found it was having a negative impact.
In the almost four months since I started, I’ve been vaping constantly and I love it. I am usually running at around 25w on a .65 single coil in my subtank mini, 50/50 to 80/20 pg/vg because I like the throat hit and vg tastes kind of sickly sweet to me. And despite my fears that it would stunt any improvement in my running ability, I’ve repeatedly smashed my personal fastest 8mi times, bringing them under 55min. I’ve also seen steady improvements in running long distance, and can do half marathons with relative ease when I nail down my diet and sleep schedule. Within about 15 minutes of last using my vaporizer I’m always good to go with very strenuous workouts.
The only negative I’ve found so far is that nicotine, much like caffeine, will **** up your day if you have a lot in your system while working out on little food or rest. I don’t really worry about it, because it’s just amplifying the negative effects that come with fatigue or low blood sugar. But it may be something to consider if you have an erratic sleep schedule or bad diet and are looking to get into shape. I also never vape during exercise, for the exact same reasons I wouldn’t drink coffee during exercise.
But the important thing to me, is that overall, despite vaping like a restaurant steam stack for the last several months, I have seen nonegative short term effects. Keep in mind that all of this is just my experience, and I cannot speak for long term effects (we really need to advocate for more studies on this if we want conclusive evidence anyways). But I do plan to update again as time goes on if the community here is interested. The position I’m in lets me closely monitor any immediate impact that vaping has on my overall performance and lung function.
TL;DR: Was already a non-smoker in great shape when I started vaping. After 4 months I’ve found no negative impact on my fitness ability and even improved at the same rate as before vaping.
