I received a order of 30Q's recently from a distro, ever since receiving them I had a bad feeling about the batteries, as the packaging was different than what I was used to.

So started out reading hundreds of forums, downloading the battery spec sheet, watching mooch videos ect, to actually determine if they were fakes or not. I will not be naming the distro as they took it of their website as soon as I notified them, however they also bought it from a local importer, so other vape shops and distros might unknowingly get these as well.

So lets play a game, without googling this, which one of these 2 looks like the fake?

So from the below pic, which do you think is the fake, taking into consideration they look identical from both the positive and negative terminals.

In this pic, they are swapped around

I will post the results here tomorrow or maybe tonight :) The poll will only be open for a day

I will also go with LEFT because of the prominent printing and no LOT code under wrapper

So here's another pic, the left one is actually now on the right side, if this helps :)

Myself included. Holding thumbs ;)

So it seems that the community ia vwry well educated. Yes the bugger on the left is fake.

Sources for determining this was from mooches videos, random forums and spec sheet (atttached)

Now, according to mooch you cannot judge a fake vs original just by die wrapping itself,as multiple factories manufacture these batteries, and there can be variences between packaging, printing, and wraps.

The fakes came in a nice pink packaging that actually made it look more premium.

The first tell tale sign that the left is possibly a fake is because of 3 things.
  1. The number 3 in 30Q has to be asymmetrical, notice the difference?
  2. The D in SDI should not protrude.
  3. And lastly! We all have been accustomed to the 30Q wrapping being thin and half see through.
Now a fake can be perfect in the above aspect. And since the information was gathered from forums, I didn't want to knock the battery just as yet, as I prefer to have as much evidence on hand to say without a doubt it's a fake. Sadly I do not have the fancy equipment (yet) that mooch uses to determine fakes.

So last test to be done was the weight test, according to the official spec sheet, they should way around 45.6g and at most 48

Here are the result
Right one

Left one

So this was all the evidence I needed to say without a doubt that these were fake.

Needless to say, I have sold some of these, everyone will obviously be receiving new replacement batteries (already have contacted them all) and these will go back.

All I can say now is, that each batch that gets delivered to me, will get tested for authenticity!

@Pho3niX90
I have seen some lg chocs also at a few shops thats selling for cheap.
I suspect they're fake, but don't have a comparison. I only have samsung cells.
Maybe you could upload a few original battery pics for us as reference please. From different brands

Sadly I fear you are correct.

LG has discontinued the choc a while ago, therefore there should not be anymore stock available for them

I have a pair that I bought a year ago from a vendor, and decided to rewrap them since I was busy. What did I discover? Super fake. This is why I do not stock them as the only place to find them is china, and we know what comes out of china most of the time.

If you PM me a link to whom sells them, I eill buy them and do a test without naming names.

Can spot the one that I suspect is fake? Pretty sure the one is fake compared to the one I bought at my local VS now. D89B9511-9F0A-41FF-909E-643BFDB2BACA.jpeg06589741-0EFC-4CC1-B52D-44B5C35218CE.jpeg

I ordered 8 Samsung 18650 30Q's on the web, but seeing how long it would take them to arrive I searched locally, and a local shop told me they had Samsung 18650 30Q's. I purchased 8, for use in an Astrolux MF01 Flashlight. It transpires that these purchased locally were in fact fakes. I confirmed this by making two identical tests, one with each set. For each set the Astrolux MF01 flashlight was set to 1550 Lumen, and left on until the 8 batteries were exhausted. The fake batteries lasted for 11 hours, and the genuine batteries, the ones I received from the web, lasted 13 hours and 48 minutes. A substantial difference! Not only that, but the locally-purchased fakes cost twice as much as the originals.

Just a summary of what to look out for when buying Samsung 30Q's

* The uppermost 30Q is authentic and the lower one is fake.
* Check the font as indicated by all the red lines - you may have to zoom the image to see the necessary detail.
* The weight of a battery is one of the better tests to determine whether a battery is fake or not (but is not fool-proof)
* The printing under the wrap as mentioned in image 1 is shown in image 2 and 3.

Just a reminder regarding image 3 and the 2nd character on the 1st line

2nd character = 0 for Samsung 30Q's ONLY
2nd character = 5 for Samsung 25R ONLY
