The Bombies Team's Five Favorite Atomizers for Vapers New and Experienced
Posted by Bombies on September 14, 2015
When it comes to vaping hardware, there is a vast sea of options available for people to use. From clearomizers to genesis atomizers, cloud-blowing monster RDAs like the Mutation to sleek, small-form flavor monsters like the Nobunaga Mini and the Derringer. With all this choice comes a typical predicament for vapers new and old alike: “What do I buy?”
Certainly, it’s a difficult choice. If you’re anything like me, you can’t help but try all of these new toys coming out on what feels like a weekly basis. In the past several months I’ve picked up the Thump, Herakles, Derringer, Aeolus, Freakshow… the list goes on and on - and that’s just atomizers. Luckily, I think I can help a bit. Here at the Bombies lab, we have vapers ranging from the ultra-enthusiast cloud chasers and flavor chasers, to absolute no-frills “I want a setup that just works” vapers. Between us, there are tons of atties and mods in use and in storage, and thanks to this wealth of experience, we offer to you:
The Bombies team’s Five Favorite Atomizers (in no particular order)
Mutation X V4 / XS
This is two RDAs, so I’m cheating a little bit, but they’re very similar so I bundled them together. The Mutation X V4 and Mutation XS are both very good RDAs. The Mutation X V4 offers up multiple airflow configurations and tons of airflow for even the cloud chuckinest build. The four post set up makes building much easier than in previous version, and the addition of under-coil airflow helps to boost flavor significantly from previous iterations. Furthermore, with the introduction of the Mutation XS, all of the benefits that the original Mutation X V4 provided have been coupled with a reduced chamber size to increase the flavor output of this workhorse atty. To top it all off, with the XS costing only $25, and the full sized not much more than that, the Mutation comes in as the cheapest option on our list, so it gets extra points for that.
Vector RDA
The Vector RDA offers something very different from the others in this list due to its unique airflow properties. The airflow slots are on top of the RDA’s top cap, channeling air over the coils, as opposed to across the side or from the bottom. The Vector produces a very flavorful vape, without restricting airflow or cramping build space. The large post holes and relatively roomy deck makes building straightforward, and once it’s set up and wicked - it’s very hard to get the Vector to leak, you’d have to turn the entire thing upside down. The included mesh screen protects from any possible spitback, but does reduce airflow a little bit. Luckily, if you don’t like the screen, you can pop it out easily.
Horizon Arctic Sub Ohm Tank
How could I leave out the Arctic? This sub ohm tank took the vaping community by storm. A storm with thick, delicious smelling clouds. The Arctic offers to those who can’t be bothered with rebuilding the wonderful world of sub-ohm vaping. Simply pop in a coil, fill up, and go. The Arctic has plenty of airflow to handle fairly high wattage, and the flavor production is some of the best I’ve had from a clearomizer. If you’re the kind of person who wants to experience dripping without actually having to deal with the hassles associated with it, this is the product for you. Of course, since it’s not a rebuildable you will pay more in the long run - a pack of coils costs around $20 - but that’s always been the tradeoff between rebuildables and pre-built devices.
Kangertech Subtank Mini
The subtank mini is a great two-in-one atomizer. It can be a rebuildable tank atomizer, or a simple clearo - it all depends on how much effort you want to put into your vape. The Subtank offers some of the most versatility in a tank system while still remaining accessible. While there are a good number of RTA/Clearomizer tanks on the market, none are as prevalent as the Subtank Mini. If you’re enticed by the idea of building, but still want the convenience of clearomizers like the arctic, this is your atty. Why rebuild, you ask? Well, with a 5-pack of coils costing roughly $20, rebuilding is an easy way to save quite literally hundreds of dollars over the lifetime of the atomizer. One hundred feet of wire costs $6, and cotton another $8.
Derringer RDA
This was once the king of the small atomizer, partially because it made the small form factor so popular, and while many challengers have entered its domain, the Derringer is still a very strong competitor. With its minimalist styling, low profile, and wide range of airflow availability from mouth-to-lung to wide the **** open, the Derringer has a lot to offer to flavor chasers, with some decent clouds on the side. If you're looking for a good small set-up, the Derringer will look good on any mod, thanks to its slick lines.
These are all great choices, as are tons of other atomizers that couldn’t make it into the “five favorites”. It all depends on what you’re looking for. Our collection is constantly growing and our daily drivers changing, but these five have become staples in our vaping kits. Be it RDA or tank, these atties consistently deliver solid performance that keeps us coming back, again and again. If we want a no-hassle experience, we inevitably reach for the arctics. If we want a little more fine tuning, it’s over to the subtank. When we decide we want to take control of every last detail, we go for our respective RDAs. It should go without saying that these options all work pretty well with max VG juices like our own Bombies and Predator juice lines, otherwise we wouldn't keep using them.
