Introduction
The GTX One is a classic starter kit comprising of a simple power only 40W mod and MTL/RDL Tank, giving a real alternative to the pod/AIO devices that have flooded the market.
Coming in 6 colours and featuring Variable wattage, Smart wattage and Variable Voltage modes but no TC or bells and whistles features the device is very Old School and comes with a similar old school style Tank with modern design, let's check this little kit out!

Aesthetics and Ergonomics
The GTX One Kit came in typical Vaporesso style cardboard packaging with tank and device separate. I received the Black version which comes with a Black Tank, the options are Black, Silver, Red, Blue, Green or Pink, all versions come with either a Black or silver tank depending on the colour of choice.
The device is quite narrow giving it a slim appearance and has an anti skid, anti scratch finish to it's sides and curved spine. The top and face is metallic and on mine both Gunmetal and a fingerprint magnet, looking at the pictures of the different colour versions the metallic parts are either Silver, black or Gunmetal depending on the colour of the anti skid finish. We have a bit of branding on one side and the "Vaporesso" logo as usual on the bottom of the spine plus Safety stamps on the base with some venting but nothing too much giving it a classic plain look.
On the face of the device we have a round metal fire button top and towards the bottom lined up vertically smaller round navigational buttons. Underneath the fire button we have a narrow but elongated screen and finally a type C USB port right at the bottom on the face. Up top we have a small Stainless Steel 510 plate which sits almost flush, the 510 is Gold plated and spring loaded.
The device isn't heavy or super light for it's small size and has an ergonomic form factor, also the anti skid finish to it's sides and spine along with a grippy surface to the face of the fire button makes this feel great in the hand!

GTX Tank 18 overview
The GTX Tank 18 gets it's name from accommodating the GTX range of coils and being 18mm in diameter at it's base, although the airflow control ring then tapers out to just over 19mm and with the 3ml bubble glass installed it's 22mm at it's widest point.
The tank is advertised as a MTL/RDL tank which is accurate as it's an old school MTL stock coil tank with a series of 5 small airflow holes beneath the slot on the bottom airflow control ring which can be adjusted to how many of the 5 holes you want in use which gives anything from a cigarette type draw but indeed fully open it gives a decent restricted lung hit and coils that suit that style are available.
Up top we have a MTL style delrin drip-tip which has a standard 510 fitting so you can use alternatives if you prefer and the top-cap screws off to reveal a wide open glass to fill as was once common before fill ports became the norm. My only con for the tank isn't the fill method but that with top-caps these days that can be removed in an instant this has quite long threading. The glass fits over a thick o-ring to the bottom of the tank and seals against an o-ring which is installed within the top-cap, we have central threading to secure the top-cap via threading on the chimney section.
The base section with airflow control unscrews from the tank to reveal we have a cradle for plug n play coils to be press fitted into. The GTX coil head just gets press fitted into place then the base section can be screwed back on to secure everything.

The Coils
The GTX Tank 18 accommodates the same GTX range of coils that Vaporesso have been using for their pod mod range so a big plus for cross compatibility and it also meant before testing this device i was already familiar with all 4 available coils.
Pre-installed is the 0.8ohm mesh coil head which is rated between 12 - 20w, also included is the 1.2ohm mesh coil head recommended between 7 - 11w.
The other available coil heads are the 0.6ohm mesh rated between 20-30w and finally the 1.2ohm regular coil head rated between 8 - 12w.

The Display
The display is real old school and reminds me of devices like the early iStick's for example which needs the device to be on it's side to be read properly, but the style still suits more simple devices to this day and vapers are still fond of the no fuss, all you really need information showing type of display.
The display is bright and sharp and although differs slightly in Variable voltage mode i will describe the default working screen. On the left of the display we have the resistance top and duration of your last puff bottom. To the right of the display we have the battery status bar top and the mode bottom, the entire central area of the display shows your current wattage.

Operating The GTX One
The device is the usual 5 clicks of the fire button to turn on and 5 clicks to turn off and once on 3 quick clicks of the fire button locks and unlocks the navigational buttons but the device still fires.
Fire and up together flips the screen and fire and down gives firmware information, finally up and down together enters the modes menu.
The modes menu allows you to use the navigational buttons to move between the different mode options and fire selects. The options are Smart Wattage, Variable Wattage, Variable Voltage, Default and Exit. Exit obviously takes you back to the working screen you were using before entering the menu and default is quite pointless as it's just Variable Wattage which we already have an option for.
Variable Wattage is the main default mode which allows the adjustment of wattage in point 1 increments with single presses or one watt increments when holding a navigational button down, it adjusts from 5 - 40w. Smart Wattage is just Variable Wattage but when set on the device will adjust to a suitable wattage when a new coil is detected (it will be a value around the middle of it's wattage recommendation) but then the wattage can still be adjusted between 5 - 40w per usual. Finally Variable Voltage allows the voltage to be adjusted in point 1 increment from 0 - 4V, when in this mode Voltage is displayed instead of Wattage on the main working screen. The device has all the usual protections and a message is displayed on the screen if one kicks in!

My Experience Using The Kit And Thoughts!
I must admit being such a simple device and already using all the coil options many times i didn't test this as long as i usually do, it really had no skeletons in the closet and is just a very good starter kit option, better than most pods/AIO devices in my opinion as this gave an authentic cigarette type draw with airflow closed down to 2 holes with the two 1.2ohm coil heads or one hole with the 0.6 and 0.8 coil heads. Both tank and Mod also allows the vaper to grow and see what direction their vaping might take.
The GTX coils all give decent enough flavour and are easily par when it comes to longevity and the available range not only allows the tank to start as a MTL option with a cigarette type pull but allows the vaper to experiment with a restricted lung hit with either the 0.6 or 0.8 coil heads installed.
I can see why the 0.8ohm coil head was included as this really is a Jack of all trades working pretty well when using either MTL or restricted direct lung but i much prefer the regular 1.2ohm coil head for MTL and wish that was included rather than the mesh, there is nothing wrong with the 1.2ohm mesh coil it's just a preference thing.
Filling is quite long winded but other than that it's a nice old school tank yet with a modern look which of course can pop on top of other devices if you wish.
The GTX One is a cracking simple device for a new vaper but many long established low wattage vapers might prefer this as an out and about simple device rather than a pod mod for example. Apart from the metallic sections being fingerprint magnets i am judging the mod on it's merits as a first starter device so cons are pretty much none existent. Having an in-built battery, only being a 40w device and having no TC really are not cons on the premise in which i am judging the device. Like the tank of course it can be used independently with little MTL tanks or low wattage single coil RTA's with anything up to 22mm looking good up top.
The device is so easy to use, ergonomic, small and comfortable in the hand. 2000mAh is pretty good battery capacity for a low wattage device and having both Type C USB and a 2A charge rate allowing a complete charge in an hour while supporting pass-through is excellent!
