Item wanted: Broken Mods to experiment on.

Price Preference: Donations gratefully accepted or will offer reasonable compensation.

Condition: Any, dead, water damaged, smashed, dropped while skydiving etc.

Age of the item: Any

Location of item: Local would be best but from anywhere will do.

Delivery/Collection: Will collect or pay postage.

Reason: . I would like to see what components are used, what fails and if the failed components are replaceable / repairable. I would also enjoy seeing if it is possible to read the different chipsets and make changes to the firmware for mods that are not software upgradeable.

In summary:
My main hobby is Amateur radio and I enjoy tinkering with electronic gadgets. I am looking for broken Mods to play with, specifically mods with chipsets. I would like to see what components are used, what fails and if the failed components are replaceable / repairable. I would also enjoy seeing if it is possible to read the different chipsets and make changes to the firmware for mods that are not software upgradeable.

Help feed my addiction finding out how stuff works and hacking source code. Some people do soduku or crossword puzzles, I do this for relaxation.

I got KangerTech mod that came out with starter kit. Switch on but do not get Ohm reading (9.9Ohms) then does not fire. Think its the 510 pin connector? You can have it for free!

Greetings Mr CT. Not many hams have moved passed the pen devices. I had to give up the smokes and take up vaping again after 2 year break but how interesting things have become in such a short space of time. I am really dying to get into the various devices and see if the firmware is hackable. I still buy all the broken handhelds I can and work on them for relaxation but getting bored with them and looking for a little more of a challenge. ZS5LPT

Many thanks, PM sent. Getting so desperate I was going to strip one of mine down to play with. Both my sons kits including their backups were stolen out the car when they went to the beach and now all my kit in use so glad I will no longer be tempted to strip a working unit for now.

Well at least you got the years of experience sneaking new rigs in to the shack so new mods and attys should be a breeze.

Thanks, if you ever have something you need repaired give me a shout, if it's within my capabilities I will sort you out. Working on a way to sort out stripped threads, need more broken stuff to play with.

I bought a 510 tap and die set from @kimbo good price it was too.

I have used a helicoil for one of my home made tube mods. The 510 was tapped into the copper top and the ss atty stripped it eventually (it's over 10 years old) but the helicoil moves so looking at spot welding it so it can't move.
