Could coastal climate affect internal battery/electronics?

These are the issues, all of them pertaining to internal batteries.

Two of my Eleaf iJust3s will not charge anymore. They're about a year old.
They've been used every day, but not for the whole day. I have three iJust 3s, each one dedicated to a flavour profile, and I alternate between the three thoughout the day.

A friend's iJust 3, also about a year old, will also not charge anymore.

Another friend's iJoy stopped charging a few months ago.

A new Eleaf iJust S battery autofires as soon as any tank is attached, whether it's the tank for the iJustS or another tank.

The common denominator of all of the above is that we all live in coastal towns in the Western Cape.

Could the coastal climate be affecting the internal batteries? Does anyone else living at the coast experience problems?

My other mods use external batteries and I've had no problems with them.

There is surely a possibility that the corrosive coastal climate has something to do with it. Especially the west coast climate which is known for reducing many metallic objects into piles of rust.

The other common thread is that they are all (but one) iJust mods. Not sure if that is just the life expectancy of these devices. Batteries do wear out but from my experience with external cells that does take a lot longer than a year. So from what I know of the subject, my guess would be that the printed circuit boards have suffered some corrosion damage.

Possibly time to upgrade to a mod with sealed internals and replaceable batteries?

@Raindance I have a few Eleaf Pico 25s and 75s, all of which use external batteries and so far I haven't had problems with any of them.

Other problems which I forgot to mention. This time with the EGO AIO ECOs which also have internal batteries. Something is wrong but I'm not sure what. They are charging, but when I vape they're not drawing properly.

Two of them have been used for about a year and a third one is quite new - I've been using it for about a month or two.
I use these for high nic only, which means that I take a puff or two every now and then, although lately I've been under stress and I've been using them quite a bit.

Honestly I don't know ... I'm just so fed up with vaping at the moment.

Sorry to hear about your issues with your mods

Not sure about the coastal issue, could be that.

But remember these mods are mass produced.

No offence to eLeaf because I personally like their products and think they generally make great vape gear, but I don’t think they (or other mass producers for that matter) use the highest quality components. And they are bound to fail. Using them for a year or two is not bad going in my view for products in this price bracket. Time to upgrade or replace.

Now here is something interesting related to what @Raindance said about the West Coast climate, though unrelated to metallic objects.

My friends, who own a coffee shop in Yzer, started selling Coffee in a Cone but stopped a few months thereafter.
(For those who don't know, it's a cone lined on the inside with hard, Swiss chocolate and one adds coffee or Bar One shake etc)

The reason why they stopped is because the chocolate inside the cone was cracking and of course the coffee would then leak through to the cone which promptly disintegrated. Their supplier told them that it seems to be a common problem here on the West Coast!!

Very interesting! What is it then about the climate here that makes it so different from other coastal towns? It can't be only the salty sea air because obviously that is found in all coastal towns. Could the icy ocean temps be a contributing factor? (Not that I go swimming with my mods - or go swimming at all for that matter!).

I do know that many people in Yzerfontein have a problem with TVs which rust - happened to me and I had to replace my TV. I've now been advised to keep the TV covered with a sheet or blanket when it's not in use, so that moisture doesn't settle directly on it.

Yes you're right @Silver. It has been cost-effective. Say an iJust 3 costs R700 and lasts a year, that works out to only R58per month for hardware which isn't bad. But, maybe it is indeed time to move on. I still have some extra batteries which gives me some breathing time. We shall see what the future holds.

Here's a pic from the Internet. You'll definitely find it in Joburg. And would you believe that I never got around to trying it - until it was too late!! I could have cried the day I went there to treat myself and they no longer had them!!!!!!

Let me see if I can repeat it correctly, as I read it somewhere, mainly explaining the semi to full desert conditions on the western side of the continent. The cold air coming from the Atlantic ocean, more specifically the Benguela current, contains very little moisture. When making landfall and warming up it actually soaks up whatever moisture it finds there and carries it inland quite a distance which explains the differences between Upington and Gauteng. The frequent occurrence of morning fog does however supply some moisture to the immediate coastal regions but being of a high salt content, only the hardiest of plants can survive from it. Or something along those lines...

So it does seem that the west coast sea air is somewhat saltier than in other regions. Salty wetness in the morning which dries quickly and leaves everything covered with a thin layer of pure salt (Higher concentrations than where things stay wet) will do the trick I think.

@Hooked No problems with my mods. I do find the tin of my cotton (TFC) and the lids of the jars I use to mix my juices for steeping, (normal consol glass jars) rust around the edges fairly quickly.
