Has anybody ordered items from overseas and used Fedex and if so any problems or anything to lookout, consider when using Fedex.

Never ever use FedEx if you can avoid it. DHL is the one to use. Just about every time FedEx is involved I have crap with customs!

I had a delivery with Fedex from China about two months ago. I had to continuously phone them to follow up for an invoice to pay customs so I could get my package. They eventually over charged me and I couldn't spend any more time trying to rectify and just wrote it off.

I'm in UK but use to find Fedex excellent until towards the end of last year, my last dozen deliveries have been followed a couple of weeks later by an invoice for duty and fees that are often more than the product is worth, DHL are the only ones that i like out of the premium services and the ones that use a combo of third party services before Yodel or Hermes control the package once it hits the UK are also usually problem free!

Wasn't there a time (way back) that you thought Fedex was the way to go? If so, its amazing how things change.

No, you are 100% on the button Hi Ho @Silver! A couple of years back FedEx was amazing... Nowadays they are just useless!

Look at this....

Pulled up the share prices of Fedex, DHL and UPS over past 5 years.
DHL (in red) in the lead, followed closely by UPS (black line)
Fedex (in blue) in a distant third position

Maybe it has something to do with what you are observing? Who knows.
(But DHL is only a part of the Deutsche Post AG group)

Anyway, share prices over the long term normally tell a good story.




Edit - the charts above are not actually fair to compare because DHL share price is in Euros - so this doesnt take into account USD/EUR movements. Nevertheless, Fedex is still behind UPS (same currency - both listed in US)

I think both DHL and UPS are popular when it comes to large consignments so for businesses dealing in large quantities but my experience of UPS when it comes to more personal small packages is they are useless while DHL maintain their standards!
