One of my dogs is rather hyper and sometimes I give him a biscuit with a certain substance in it (made for dogs) but unfortunately he's never looked like that!!

There is a product called Happy Hound in SA that is made for dogs and cats - it has valerian root in it to calm them down.

I have a dog that is afraid of like noises... ice machine, thunder, fireworks etc.
I found the only thing that works is comfort and time spent with the animal to firstly calm it down because it's not in its right mind when it's distressed and secondly, once your alpha status is cemented in the relationship the animals take cues from the alpha as to be calm.

I have been following a system with a plastic correction collar and it's been quite effective in establishing dominance etc.
I've also installed a dog door where the animals spend all their time inside to get them into a quieter environment and closer to the alpha.

@Christos haha we had a dog that was terrified of thunderstorms. Until my grandfather told him not to be scared and rather bark at it.

The dog turned around, no longer terrified and barked his head off at every thunderstorm til the day he died. Drove my dad mad - everyone else thought it was funny.

I live at the bottom of a valley between 2 mountains.
I'm afraid of this lightning. I suspect the mountains have copper or iron in large quantities as the storms here are terrible and my electronics used to get fried with every storm! Also, there is a lot of interference with any wireless signal and 2 way radios don't work here.

Sometimes it feels and sounds like lihhtning has struck your property directly :D

Same here but in open land with nothing to protect the house.

About two years ago, lightning hit the roof, fried almost everything except my stuff. I could feel it lingering for 30 mins afterwards. Everything in my flat got away with it - even my pc was was untouched.

I've installed a type 2 arrestor on my DB board. When lighting strikes the power dips and is bled off by the arrestor and haven't had damaged electronics since. Just be aware there are R300 jobbies but I don't trust those.
