Hey folks,

I’ve been rocking DTL for years and whipping up recipes like a pro (or at least, I think so). But recently, I decided to take a little detour down the MTL trail and give my DVAWR MTL FL 24 a go. I mixed up a couple of my favourite DTL recipes, switched to 50/50 and 60/40 ratios, and… well, the flavour just isn’t hitting the same.

It’s not baaaad (see what I did there?), but it’s not nearly as bold or satisfying as what I’m used to. So, I’m wondering if I’m missing something or if this is just the nature of MTL:

  1. Do I need to crank up the flavour percentages, like you would for pod setups?
  2. Could I be using the DVAWR wrong? I’ve tinkered with airflow and wattage, but it still feels kinda muted.
  3. Should I expect the same flavour intensity from MTL, or is it just a different experience altogether?
Any tips or tricks from the herd? I’d love to hear how you mix for MTL or how you adjusted if you made the jump from DTL. Maybe I’ve been spoiled by the clouds, but I want to give MTL a proper shot!

Hey man, so first off, I’m no DIY pro or anything; this is just my two cents. From what I’ve heard from a friend of mine, when mixing anything higher than 6mg, you need to double the percentages you used in your DL recipe. I’ve vaped a few of his MTL juices, and the flavor is right there, not muted at all. Hope this helps!

Hey bud.
Thanks for the quick reply. So, I am currently sticking to 3mg Freebase. I will not be going over 6mg. But I will keep that in mind.
I know that when mixing for a pod device, you need to bump up the flavour, but the one juice I tried is already quite heavy on flavour and translates very well into my Vaperesso Xross at 50/50 with nic salts, but not so much in the DVAWR.

Strange... maybe try wicking a little thinner and maybe bump up your percentages a little anyway.

Watching with interest. My finding was that using the same recipes (adjusting pg/vg ratios accordingly) that I would for DL would gunk up MTL coils super quickly. That being said, all of my favourite DL recipes have sweeteners and I think that's the culprit. But making the same recipe with lower or no sweeteners has not been satisfying.

From what I have read so far, MTL coils do not last as long as DTL coils. I could be entirely wrong here, but that is based on info from a few guys over on YouTube and Reddit (the most reliable source of information ever o_O).

I wrapped up some 2 core claptons for it. I am running 2x 30AWG SS316L cores with a 40AWG Ni80 wrap at 8 ply with a 2.5mm ID. It comes out to 0.9ohms. I installed the coil with a bit of a raise over the airflow intake to give the air some space to move before hitting the coil. I am also using the smallest airflow insert that came with my DVAWR MTL. I have tried going bigger, but then it gets noisy and the flavour does not really improve.

For my MTL mixes I usually mix anywhere from 25-50% flavour. Sometimes I don’t even add PG because the flavour % is so high. 25% is usually disappointingly weak flavour 40% for me personally is the sweet spot. I don’t use sweetener though as it gunks up something horrible.

The issue here lies in the amount of vapour you inhale. Remember, the flavour's in the vapour, the less you get from your setup, the less flavour there will be. In that sense, MTL is very much the same as pods, even though you just run at 3mg, in that you need to bump the percentages on the mixes same as you would for pods.

I vape my Pure Vanilla day-in-day-out (have for the past few years), but when I put it in either a MTL or Pod setup, I have a separate bottle I fill from which is mixed at my Pod related ingredient percentages.

At one stage I used to have four variants of each recipe (this is how I branded them in my recipe calculator):
Normal - 1 to 6mg
NS - 0 and 7 - 16mg
MTL - 17 to 30mg
HMTL - 31 to 50mg

If I mix for my pod/mtl setups, I use the NS variant. And no, it's not a mistake that I included 0mg in there as well. Nicotine is a flavour enhancer, so if you mix 0mg juices you typically need to bump it as well.
