Hi Guys,

so I was on holiday in durbs last week. I placed 2 batteries in my Nitcore D2 Charger at around 10:30 am. when I returned to my room at around 4pm I smelled something funny when I approached my charger.

I noticed the light on the charger was off and sensed something was not right. upon closer inspection I realised the purple efest battery was leaking into the charger. I took the leaking battery out with a tissue wrapped it in a few tissues and threw it away.

I took the plug out and plugged the charger back but the light did not switch on, it was clearly fried.
anyway I threw the charger away as well. I kept the other battery but haven't used it.

should I just throw the battery away or try to charge it on my mod (SX Mini). im a little worried that the battery is damaged and I don't want to damage the mod.

also lastly has anyone come across something like this where a battery explodes in the charger. I would charge my batteries every night as the charger has the option to charger through the night and stop charging once the battery is fully charged. I was advised by a fellow vaper that the battery was in the charger for too long, but im not convinced that's the cause.

Dude, that hectic... Im just leaving a comment to hear response from more experienced vapers and learn a little bit (I was under the impression that those chargers would stop charging once the batteries are fully charged hence no harm in leaving them overnight). Besides, from what I understand from your post, it sounds like the battery leaked and didnt explode (hence inadvertedly asking if the battery swole), and maybe just a faulty/cr@p battery that wasnt sealed properly rather than it relating to a charging issue. Interested to hear more on this topic...

you right now that I think back the battery did not swell. I guess it was just a sh!t battery... not sure if the other battery short circuited thou.

Not a good experience :( I am suspecting bad battery. Was it dropped at all?

Unfortunate bud.
I also had a efest battery begin to vent in my nitecore charger a few months ago.

Yeah I'm hoping that the general consensus is a faulty battery! My wife would kill me if my D2 burnt the house down.

Ok guys , i need to remind you , clean your kit , i have seen this thing happen to many guys .
Your batteries tend to build up a small deposit of corosion from minimal arcing in your devices , how can you tell , the contacts on the batteries are dull as to compared to new batteries that are shiney ..
That small amount of corosion means that the charger does not correctly read the voltages of the battery correctly and there starts the problem , the charger ramps up the charging current , after a while this will damage the battery and cause all sorts of problems .

So please , every once and a while clean your battery contacts AND contacts in your mod and contact pins in your charger .

I use a small nail buff on all contacts just to keep them shiney ...

I had an experience in 2013 with this charger where the adjustable negative slider suddenly snapped back , breaking contact with the battery. This occurred about 5 minutes after putting a battery in. The battery for whatever reason was on it's way to the fiery pits of hell, but fortunately the charger had a safety spring similar to the one found in a Reo. The battery didn't vent, but it was hot as hell, and likely saved in the nick of time.Firefox_Screenshot_2016-01-12T14-47-16.194Z.png

@Gibo you are very lucky that you caught it in time. That could have ended much differently, glad you're okay :)

I agree with @Rowan Francis's advice, a pencil eraser also does an amazing job at cleaning electrical contacts

Check the voltage of the other battery to know what condition it is in.
If it's within the flat to full range should be OK. From what you have said it probably received a partial charge.
If its really low then it's probably stuffed.
If it's fully charged I would use it.

I personally would throw the battery away.

This has never happend to me, but I have seen this happen on a mechanical mod more then once.. Although rare can happen if the mod somehow shorts due the device or the battery internally. If it has failed throw the battery away.. Do not attempt to fix a battery.. They are relatively cheap and should always be replaced even if they drop below a reasonable voltage. Its not worth playing games with batteries..
