Show us your Builds - User Made Tank Coils (Protanks, Nautilus Etc.)

Built this little single coil for my mPT3 tank, pics are terrible I know but here it is anyway :)

Used 32g Kanthal, 5 wraps & 2mm ID, wicked with a little cotton with a piece over the coil also to fill the gap. It comes out at 2.5 ohms which makes for a great vape on a ego 650 battery, very light on juice and the battery lasts forever :) This is going to have to keep me company until my sense of taste returns.

I need to get a cup for my aerotank.

Seems like the tank is hating me lately. It doesn't wanna vape nicely at all. :(

Yeah, not a fan of the standard dual coil. I stripped out a perfectly good coil to build this little chap. Did you try rinsing yours out and dry burning?

No. I haven't hey.

Read that dry burning the stock coils with the wick on damages them and kills the life out of them?

Yeah but when it gets so bad that you can't vape it anymore then what do you have to loose? Have you got something else to use if it goes south?

I have the nautilus. But the aero is like my sweet child. Depresses me to not be able to use her.

Guys, have you tried rebuilding coils on the standard single coil mPT2 type coil?
Its really easy, very little leaking if any and performs very well IMO
8 or 9 wraps of 28g with 1.5mm iD and the shorter slits dont need as much cotton to plug it up
1.5 or 1.6 ohms. Vapes like a champ. And not too heavy on juice or batt life

@BhavZ will confirm that its more challenging doing this single coil build on the dual coils for the mpT3.

I haven't experienced the mPT2 coils yet, but I've been rebuilding the CE4 coils with salvaged wire for a while :)
The fresh Kanthal is a Godsend! I tried a 1.5 ohm build with 28g on the mPT3, great vape but very impractical on the ego 650mah battery, runs it down in no time.

Unfortunately I don't have a mPT2. Or the cup from it either.

Only Kangertech item I have is the aero.

Just a question. If u rebuild the pt2 coil for the pt3

do u use the pt2 cup and the pt3 chimney?

You can use the pt2 cup and chimney as long as its the long chimney and not the stubby one.

If I'm not mistaken the pt3 chimney comes lower down when pressed into the cup which might choke your wick

The only difference between the mpt2 and mpt3 are the length of the cup, the chimneys are the same.

mpt2 cup with long chimney (the standard kanger coils now) will perfectly in the mpt3 tank.

If you want to build a single coil in the mpt3 cup the lowest ID you can go is 2.4 and the highest ID you can go is 3mm. The only problem with the 3mm is that it takes a bit longer to heat up compared to the 2.4mm ID.

In the mpt2 cup you can use a 1.4mm ID and will get better vape than if you use the 2.4mm ID in an mpt3 cup.

mpt3 cups are perfect for dual coil and you would 2 1.4mm ID coils, but when building a dual coil you would use two types of wicking, cotton which will go in the coils and silica which will sit between the coils. The reason for not using cotton between the coils is that the amount needed to prevent leaking suffocates the cup and the end result being poor vape quality.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for adding those points of wisdom there @BhavZ

So there you have it. For rebuilding single coils, its best to stick with the mPT2.

Cool thanks. Sofar ive been doing single coil rebuilds in the pt3 cup with 2mm ID. No leaks so far using cotton but with silica it leaks..

The leaking usually happens under the coil when using silica.

If you prefer using silica what you can try is putting a small piece of cotton under the silica.. It would serve to purposes, one to close the gap in the cup and two to act as a feeding pad (like an ink pad) to the silica

Cool man.. I am a big fan of cotton as well

Think I finally got it down perfectly on the Nautilus.

6/7 wraps using 26g Kanthal with ID of 3mm.

Resistance reads at 1.2ohms

Got the coil sitting at the perfect height with the cotton not smothering the airflow.

Flavour is fantastic!

Will do a complete photo tutorial on my next attempt.

Thankx for letting us know  now I can try it 2 :D

Thanks guys.

I used to do RC racing back in the day. Found one of my exhaust tips from the shell.

Now I just need to find a tank big enough for this beast. Ha ha ha!!
