Nick is doing a fair amount of single coil building and wicking on his channel as well, so it's worth watching a couple of Grimm Green reviews for other decks and wicking styles.

You could hear the crackles while he was taking a draw. The cotton is a bit loose. Besides, I prefer to cut the wick shorter so that it’s barely visible below the deck And fluff it nicelly.. It works like a charm.
In 2 words, wick tight and fluff nicely then cut short and you shouldn’t have any issue.

I do the same as you. I watched that video a while back when he posted it, does not work well in the Intake single.
