Decided to do a quick review on the Smoant Battlestar Mod that I Recently won from @HeavenGifts.

Specs: 200w, dual 18650 , Temperature Control (Ni200,Ti,NiCr,SS), Variable wattage, TCR.

Packaging: comes in a nice thick box with a sticker showing the colour you chose. Inside you'll find the mod, charging cable, user manual, quality certification, battery warning card, prompt card and warranty card.

Mod: looks very similar to the Reuleaux rx2/3 but smaller, which makes it better. It has strong Magnetic battery doors. I don't get any rattles from the mod at all. Build quality is very good. Tight yet clicky buttons. Screen is bright, can easily be seen in sunlight. Paint holds up well (I had the exact same colour before), nice thing though when it scratches ,this colour seems to hide the scratches quite well.

Cons: My box never had spare battery magnets (although I didn't need them with my previous battlestar) . my previous mod had a ticking sound, like a watch, can be heard in very quiet rooms when it's close to your ear yet This one doesn't seem to have that problem perhaps they fixed it or maybe it could return. Smoant did say that it's the mod constantly checking the resistance But it doesn't affect performance. And it's not loud that you would constantly hear it. Your atomizers ,over time, will leave a ring as all tanks sit flush on top of the mod. It's not firmware upgradable.

Pros: Build quality!!, this mod can handle a beating, excellent for outdoor day to day use. Never had a misfire.Goes up to 200w , so it caters for the "watt chasers" . Small so it Fits inside the hand nicely. Pocket friendly. It Can take up to 25mm attys (might be a con for some of you who uses bigger tanks). All atomizers that I used sit flush. You have a wide array of colours to choose from.

So if you looking for a everyday mod, I'd definitely recommend this.

Any idea whats the diff between VW/NI/TCR Modes? and what will happen if I switch from VW mode

The TC settings i don't use. So I actually have no idea how efficient they are.. I keep mine in the VW (normal wattage) mode.

Can someone tell me if this mod does onboard charging safely? Im stuck between this and the new charon

I've charged mine from time to time via USB and haven't exploded yet. #RollsEyes.

I say it's fine to charge via USB. Not sure why other people put fear into those that don't charge externally yet the companies that create the mods says that the mods are capable of charging.

Someone might reply and say "i would recommend external charging".. and that very same person will eat sugar, artificial flavourings and preservatives, YET all those foods are not recommended. Lol. You see the irony.

True story lol

Great so no Vape mfundi's can tell us what the diff modes are and the implications of using the wrong mode :nerd::nerd:, I looked at my mini manual and no help there either .

Hi @MrDeedz
I dont have this mod so i cant comment with surety but:

Surely the NI is a temp control mode when using NI200 wire?
And the TCR mode is to set your own coefficients for other types of wire for temp control?
I would say if you using Kanthal or any other non temp control wire, it would be better to use VW mode.

Thanks @Silver . The modes are VW, NI, TI , SS , NC , TCR M1, TCR M2, TCR M3

Ok

I would say that NI is for NI200 temp control wire
TI I assume is for Titanium
SS - is stainless steel for temp control. You can also use SS in normal wattage mode - ie VW
NC - not sure what this is, lol
Then the three Memories for TCR I am assuming are the three settings where you can set your own coefficients for whatever wire you want. (For temp control.)

When you go into one of those modes, the mod should allow you to set a temperature? That is if I am understanding it correctly. Maybe one of the other Battlestar users can comment further.

*starts to google search "meaning of setting co-efficient" lol :risas3:

As I understand it @MrDeedz

The way temp control works in a mod is that it can work out what the temp is based on what the resistance of the wire is. And some wires have a predictable change in resistance at various temps.
So you "lock" it when the coil is cold at the beginning and then it can work out what the implied temp is based on how the resistance changes. As it gets hotter, the resistance goes up slightly.

So if you use a wire with a different relationship between temp and resistance (not pre-installed on the mod), you can input your own temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) which is essentially just telling the mod how that wire behaves. I stand to be corrected but its just the slope of the line of temp vs resistance for that wire.

There are published TCR values for different wire types.

By the way, Kanthal is not good for temp control because its resistance hardly changes with increased temp. There is a mod that does Kanthal temp control using a technique called FSK, but most of the temp control mods dont use that method.

Damn thanks Buddy, much appreciated for the time to explain much appreesh.

@Gersh , was meaning to say thanks for the nice photos and sharing your views on the pros and cons
Useful indeed.

I have nearly bought one of these mods twice around the time they came out - dont know what held me back - maybe the colours available at the time. But this one looks great!
