Smok M80 Plus - Humming noise, getting warm and not firing?

Hi guys, im posting this on behalf of a friend.

His Smok m80 plus randomly stopped working a day ago, he fired the mod once or twice and after that the screen switched off and the mod was unresponsive.

He has tried the following to troubleshoot it:
- Reset the device
- obviously clicked 5 times for on and off, after the device is off it starts to hum.
- Plugged it in to charge port in which case it starts working for 2 or so "fires" there after the screen switches off and starts humming and shows a "0." in small in the corner of the screen, the mod also starts getting warm.
- Tried multiple atty's


Basically after it is plugged in to charge and you start using it, it will work untill the screen times out, and thereafter the device will "humm" and become completely unresponsive.

Any help would be appreciated.

Is there any sign of liquid getting into the device, I had a look at a "faulty" device today that looked as though it had fallen into a juice bucket. I'm not saying it's that, but it's worth looking into.

Ill ask him quickly. Could that cause the chip to malfunction like that though?
Is it safe to open it up and check?

Sad that he never got it sorted, but good to hear that he's on his feet again! I have a M80 and have been using what I'll eventually promote a "mod saver", which is pretty much a little 25mm plastic disk with a hole in the middle that fits snugly around a 510 pin, so no more juice leaks all over my mod and no more surface scratches! Much win! Such wow!

The humming sound you are hearing is the malfunctioning of the internal switching components (mosfets). The fact that it is heating up means that there is an electrical short circuit inside. This could be due to component failure or eliquid that has leaked inside. The unit is going into a form of protection mode.The easiest fix that is worth a try is to open the device and clean the pcb with Isopropyl alcohol (99%) or methylated spirits and a tooth brush. Then possibly blow dry with a hairdryer. If this doesn't fix the problem, then component failure is the problem. I have fixed several mods using this technique.

Advanced techniques would be using a hot air station and doing a reflow however specialized equipment and precision electronic skills are required.

At the current state for your own safety, do not use this mod as is. There is a high risk of the batteries overheating and possible explosion.
