so I installed a ss316 core fused clapton yesterday.

Is it normal with ss316 for resistance to jump around when in power mode?

I get it why it does it in temp mode but was wondering if it’s right in power mode.

It was jumping all the way from 0.38 up to 0.5 and everywhere in between.

I did all the usual checks, post screws, positive pin, bits of wire lying around from being cut. All seems fine.

Thoughts?

Isn't the huge change in resistance as it heats what makes SS a perfect candidate for Temp Control.
I think you’re right but I’m using good ol watts and just wanted to make sure the jumping about was right.

Don't know about other mods but this is the reason Voopoo drag had the option to change resistance of a installed coil.
Also some mods have the option to lock the resistance when using the temp control mode.

Stainless is mix of alloys and steel. The hotter it gets it reads the different resistance properties like @Raindance said real time resistance.
If you don't want it to jump then lock the ohms like @Faiyaz Cheulkar said but its normal.
you can loosen the coil and re-tighten it and it might not jump by much

The problem when u remove and retighten is that the mod will read the new resistance of the atty(higher resistance of the heated coil) or u will have to wait till the atty cools down to room temperature.

I have seen that on my mods when I use SS coils @Paul33

I agree with @craigb
The resistance of the wire increases as it heats up. That's what makes it good for temp control.
So your mod is probably just reading the correct resistance (that is changing)

I tried again @Silver but the fluctuating ohms isn’t drives me mad.

Good ol kanthal fused clapton put in and I’m smiling

yes my brother bit then the mod asks if its a new coil and if you want to keep the original ohms/resistance setting or change to the new resistance setting and if you do the latter then the resistance will not go higher as it read the warm coil resistance.
Check it and see.It works that way on my vega so I might be wrong when it comes to your mod

I using a Twisp Vega so mine might work different. When I do that it asks me if its a new coil and new ohms/resistance if i say no it stays with old setting and yes it choses the new resistance measured fro. the warm coil and the ohms don't really jump.

Don't have any atties with SS coils ATM, but will install and update back.
Had this same issue with SS coils and unfortunately sold my Voopoo thinking other new mods might be better at handling this issue, I was wrong. so had given up on SS coils.
But now I am excited once again to try.

@Faiyaz Cheulkar I use SS 99.8% of the time and all are mostly two strands twisted together and I don't have high end gear ,but I am happy with it, and with the results I get.
Try simple coils first before you end up not liking it.

I had that once but turned out to be the smok rba instead of the wire. The only way I found it was to put it onto the mod and I touched the negative post. The resistance would jump all over the place. Even the slightest touch would make it change but you said you checked already.
