If you use a left handed drill bit do you also need to run you drill machine in reverse mode i.e. anticlockwise...

But if you stripped a screw your bit still need slight modification or it will drill out the head.
This will be most cases. If the screw is not that tight. It might work as is.

This left handed flute bits works great to start the removal process of a broken bolt. When a bolt normally breaks the point of break(can't remember what it's called again) is normally broken in the direction it was screwed. So drilling in the same direction doesn't always work smoothly. So drilling with these drill bits makes it easier to start the broken bolt removal process. Next is normally the screw extractor.
