THE SOUTH AFRICAN GOVERNMENT WANTS TO TREAT VAPERS THE SAME AS SMOKERS, EVEN THOUGH EVIDENCE SHOWS VAPING IS FAR LESS HARMFUL AND HELPS PEOPLE TO STOP SMOKING.
THE GOVERNMENT WANTS TO TAKE AWAY YOUR FREEDOM TO VAPE IN PUBLIC PLACES AND DEPRIVE YOU OF THE INFORMATION YOU NEED TO MAKE INFORMED CHOICES ABOUT VAPING PRODUCTS WITH THE PROPOSED CONTROL OF TOBACCO PRODUCTS AND THE ELECTRONIC NICOTINE DELIVERY SYSTEMS BILL 2018.
ADDING TO THIS, THE SOUTH AFRICAN NATIONAL TREASURY WANTS TO IMPOSE AN R2.90 PER ML ON ALL NICOTINE AND NON-NICOTINE E-LIQUIDS FROM 1 JUNE 2023. THIS PROPOSED TAX WILL SEE E-LIQUID PRICES INCREASE BY UP TO 116%, IRRESPECTIVE OF THE NICOTINE CONTENT. IF SUCCESSFUL, THIS MOVE WILL HAVE FAR-REACHING RAMIFICATIONS ON THE ENTIRE SECTOR, ESPECIALLY CURRENT AND FUTURE CONSUMERS AND THEIR RIGHTS TO USE A SAFER ALTERNATIVE.
VAPING SHOULD BE REGULATED BASED ON SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE, NOT UNFAIR BIAS
