Something similar happened to me, take off the base and press it back together with a pair of pliers. DO NOT knock it back down by the post, they will bend.

Just an update, I've managed to rescue my griffin :D With a 2mm drill bit and sandpaper, happy days, she's running perfectly now.

I had the same experience as you on the griffin. The flavour also seems better with normal spaced coils
