Item being sold: Full set of wooden chessmen, solid wooden chess board, storage box
Chessmen: Royal Knight chess pieces, classical Staunton design but with extremely detailed knights and unusual kings finials. Triple-weighted. Dark pieces are genuine Ebony - the most sought-after wood type for black pieces. Light pieces are (very high quality) Boxwood like most light pieces in wooden chess sets. A full sized tournament set - actually slightly larger - the king stands 106mm tall where most tournament sets are at +-96mm. Broad bases for extra stability and fast-play - kings base has 44mm diameter. Two extra queens are provided for pawn promotion (the second queens are slightly smaller and have sharper points on the crown).
Chess board: Note that this is solid wood, end-grain chess board, not veneered, so it's a heavy and substantial piece. The frame and dark squares are made from Indian Rosewood. The lighter squares from White Maple. Rounded edges to the frame. Square sizes are tournament sized - 55mm. The overall dimensions of the board are 53.5cm x 53.5cm x 2cm.
Chess Box: Just throwing this in as an extra - it is a black leatherette (not genuine leather) box with velvet lining, a removable tray and individual sections for each piece, including the extra queens.
Selling Price: R5800 for the full set, or R3200 for the pieces only
Condition: Pieces and board are as new. Box has been slightly modified so that the lid stays open (I cut off a piece of ribbon which was too short for the lid to stay in it's open position)
Age of the item: Less than 2 months old
Location of item: Cape Town
Delivery/Collection: Collection preferred due to size/weight (but shipping can be arranged at buyers expense)
Reason: Too many chess sets, not enough space
