Stupid me. I mistakenly inserted a battery w/ a torn wrap in to my dual 18650 MOSFET protection mech.Guess what happened when I fired it?Now it's dead,is it possible the MOSFET blew and now needs replacing? And is it possible to do so? It's a high end mech mod (American Muscle) and was a favorite of mine so if it can be fixed that would be great.

Could be a couple of things depending on how the box was built.

Is it Series or Parallel?
If Series, is there a 555 with Potentiometer (a.k.a PWM) fitted
Are there any resistors/diodes?
Are there any fuses (if it was built by someone who has a heart it should have a fuse or 2)?

An FET shouldnt pack up for such a miniscule event. The commonly used IRLB3034 can handle over 40V and in excess of 190A. Resistors and/PTC's would probably be the first to go.

If the circuitry is shrink tubed, remove that first and check all of your connections. If you have a multimeter, put your batteries in (properly this time lol) and check where different points in the circuit to see where the voltage cuts (you might need to close the actuator to check after the "MOSFET". If its too much of a mission to use shrink wrap to seal everything up again, insulation tape will do just fine (just do it neatly ;))

You seem to know your stuff. Thanks!

@Cespian On that note. How do you fix a battery with a slightly torn wrap? Can I use one wrap of insulation tape?

Insulation tape will work. However it may make the battery a bit of a tight fit when putting it back into the mod. You then also have to often redo it since the tape WILL loose its glue and start peeling off. Just be very careful. If it is a very tight fit you have to ensure the tape does not peel off while pushing the battery into the mod.

Id suggest trying to find a new heat-shrink for the battery. I have seen them on fasttech but not too sure where you will find in SA.

Maybe try some local battery/electronic suppliers.

I agree with @StangV2_0 and wouldn't suggest using insulation tape for your batteries. There are so many places you can get shrink tube from and some of our venders actually stock shrink tube cut specifically for 18650 batteries, and they are dirt cheap. If you would like to purchase from a vape store, I will list a vender or 2 below:

http://vaporize.co.za/shop/18650-pvc-wrap-10-pack-purple/
http://www.vapeking.co.za/18650-battery-wrap-various-colours-4-pack.html

There are a few other vape stores that stock these wraps. Otherwise most electronics stores like RS Components, Communica etc stock shrink tube in rolls and you can just cut what you need. There are plenty youtube tutorials on how to rewrap 18650's. Most of em suggest using a mini blow torch or heat gun... my wifes hairdryer works absolutely fine for me though.
